Food Production Geography Subject To look at the idea of SUSTAINABLE FOOD production Farmers Markets /Farm Shops( local) Imported v Exported Food Miles how far is the food transported – my Sunday Dinner! Fairtrade / Traidcraft – look at what is fair -Tea / Coffee/Cocoa Farmers receive a Fair deal or do they? Schooling/ healthcare grants Funding Community projects – dig wells to provide clean water supplies Skills of the farmers how they use the land / tools/ machinery What the consumer looks for labels Organic Production what does it mean-natural / healthier/ more expensive.

Health • Exercise- link food intake to the right foods for sport based activities • Health – 5 a day what does this mean?How can it be achieved?Vitamins / fruit / vegetables. • Water intake how much,what is healthy? • Sleep does food influence sleep patterns –think about coffee and tea,alcohol big meal late at night.

Health • Stress- can food help the mood and act as a destress solution e.g does it relax create well being. • Nutrition and Diet – what we eat is what we are ( true or false )? • Life style – do we eat regularly?Do we snack perhaps when we shouldn’t.What do we eat is it junk food or healthy?Do we have little time to eat and so our bodies miss out everyday.

  7. Food Cuisines of Europe • What are the traditional meals of each European Country- England Fish and Chips,Roast Dinner. • Regional Variations – Cornish Pastie, Yorkshire Pudding, Bedfordshire Clanger. • Religious Festivals – Christmas, Easter,Lent,Diwalhi,Ramadan associated foods.

  8. Social Gatherings • How is food used in a social context – for meals T.V. Dinners/Family meal /High Tea. • Special Occasions – Weddings,Birthdays,Graduations,Births/ Deaths what is the norm.Religious Ceremonies Christmas ( cake / puddings /trifle/ mince pies/yule log / turkey ) • Changes in cultural context – the take away mixed food Balti/ Chinese / Japanese/ Italian
