  • Researchers estimate that there were 2,000 independent people speaking 350 languages across the North American Continent.

  • Local History:

    • Today there are no federally recognized tribes in Missouri. Most Native Americans were forced to leave during the Indian Removals of the 1800's.

    • Stories, beliefs passed down by word of mouth from generation to generation

    • Beliefs, life lessons, values presented in the form of myths or legends

    • Since stories weren’t written, many oral traditions went undiscovered for years.
