URBACT PROGRAMME • European funding programme, under ERDF umbrella • Exchange and learning programme that enables cities to work together to build solutions to major urban challenges. • 27 projects, with 6 to 12 cities or other partners from around Europe • URBACT II is 181 cities, 29 countries, and 5,000 active participants www.urbact.eu My Generation I Friday, 20 December 2019 I Page 3

THE YOUNG ARE THE FUTURE • The key idea of MY GENERATION is to promote the positive potential of the youth – with the youth • Together we must build our cities into vibrant communities • We need to understand the aspirations of different generations better • Together with the young we need to build positive career alternatives, examples, capabilities and employment My Generation I Friday, 20 December 2019 I Page 4

BUILDING NEW NETWORKS AND ACTION • As a result of MY GENERATION each city has a new Local Action Plan • Each city sets up a “Local Support Group” To identify and consolidate in the local networks new links between the youth, local communities, education and business • MY GENERATION has good practice examples and methods everybody can use My Generation I Friday, 20 December 2019 I Page 6

LEARNING GOOD PRACTICE (2) • MY GENERATION is about promoting the positive potential of the young generation in cities WITH THE YOUTH AND FOR THE YOUTH • In order to achieve this we need to TRANSFORM the way young people are involved in projects, services and city matters • We need to move away from “target group” thinking to CO-CREATION • We need to transform our workshops, activities, projects to new kinds of learning spaces, not just TALKING ABOUT CO-CREATION, but actually CO-CREATING My Generation I Friday, 20 December 2019 I Page 10

Why involvement of MA’s? • Requirement from the URBACT programme • URBACT budget only for knowledge exchange, networking and making plans • Possibility to implement the Local Action Plan with ERDF or ESF funding • Link with Local Action Plan • Building a relationship with MA’s My Generation I Friday, 20 December 2019 I Page 12

Operational Programmes • Developed by each Managing Authority • Description of their funding priorities • If the content of the Local Action Plan fits within the funding priorities of the Operational Programme: BINGO! • Could be the funding for actually implementing the Local Action Plan My Generation I Friday, 20 December 2019 I Page 13

Steps taken • Cities analyse content of ‘their’ Operational Programme • Done by the city, or hire an external expert within your city/country (Operational Programmes are written in the national language) • Identify possible links with the MG themes, and especially with the focus chosen My Generation I Friday, 20 December 2019 I Page 14
