Registration is aFOUR Step Process • Registration assembly for students • Consultation with teachers and parents for input and signatures • Submission of completed course selection sheet to English/Social Studies teacher by February 19thto “seal” registration process • Meeting with counselor in April to review and finalize courses chosen

  4. Your classes will be coming to guidance in April for you to meet personally with your guidance counselor. You will receive a copy of the classes that you requested and have a chance to change any choices you made when you come to Guidance to review your chosen courses with your counselor! If you have questions before the April meeting, see your counselor before school, during lunch or after school.

Anatomy of a Course Selection Sheet • The course selection sheet is used to select courses for next year • Have your academic subjects (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, World Language) signed by your current teachers in those subjects. • Any course, academic or elective, followed by a blank box needs a teacher signature. • Rank electives 1 – 3. You are required to choose 3 electives! Number the electives #1, #2, #3.

Course Selection Sheet PARENTS & STUDENTS: Please review this course selection sheet carefully and sign below. • See the curriculum guide at our web page WWW.PVCHS.COM under the COURSE GUIDE button under the GUIDANCE tab for course descriptions. • Courses in Italicsare included in calculation of BRIGHT FUTURES FMS/FAS GPA. • Parents and students should choose classes carefully.ELECTIVES will NOT be changed next year. • Make sure that you have obtained teacher recommendation if the box on the right is open. • Failure to return course selection sheet by the deadline will result in courses being selected for you by your counselor. No changes will be permitted. • $ Symbol = material cost/donation requested • All students will be scheduled for levels of English, math and science based upon their FCAT and EOC scores and prior performance. Students with low FCAT/FSA/EOC scores will be required to drop elective courses to take INTENSIVE READING and/or INTENSIVE MATH to support their regular English and/or math class. Dual EnrollmentEarn college credit while at PVCHS! • For eligible students with a 3.0 or above • Dual enrollment ready scores on the SAT or ACT or PERT or CPT • Choose Palm Beach State College, PVCHS or Florida Atlantic University • A grade of “C” or better must be earned • Confirm application deadline with your counselor • 1 Dual Enrollment class each semester will be offered at PVCHS next year (Medical Terminology & Health Concepts for Medical Academy Seniors only) Remember! Dual enrollment classes become part of the permanent college transcript and can impact eligibility for financial aid.

Dual Enrollment DUAL ENROLLMENT FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR • We will be having a DUAL ENROLLMENT ASSEMBLY on Tuesday, February 9th • If you are interested in taking a Fall or Summer 2016 course you must sign up in the Guidance Office now so that you can be invited to the DUAL ENROLLMENT ASSEMBLY on February 9th DUAL ENROLLMENT FOR SUMMER B SESSION • Summer B classes begin June 28 and end August 9(check for conflicts in your summer vacation plans!!!) • Registration begins March 21, 2016 • If you are interested in taking a Summer B course you must sign up in the Guidance Office now so that you can be invited to the DUAL ENROLLMENT ASSEMBLY on February 9th

Fall 2016 Dual Enrollment Through The University of Florida 100% Real UF Courses Online 16 PV students are enrolled this semester REQUIREMENTS: -Juniors & Seniors Only -3.5 Unweighted GPA TEST SCORES -Old SAT 1490 or better OR -New SAT 1000 or better OR -Old PSAT 142 or better OR -New PSAT 1030 or better OR -ACT Composite of 21 or better SIGN UP IN GUIDANCE TO ATTEND THE DUAL ENROLLMENT ASSEMBLY ON FEBRUARY 9TH IF INTERESTED

  27. Virtual Classes We do not recommend virtual course on or off our campus to replace courses that are already on your schedule, taught on our campus or to get a period “off”. Virtual online courses are very rigorous, have a strict pacing guideline and we have no control over when you will get into the course or when you will complete the course. Students electing to substitute a class period for an FLVS course are expected to complete a semester of FLVS credit for each substituted semester period by the conclusion of the semester.  Failure to complete FLVS credit substituted for class periods at Park Vista within a timely manner may result in future FLVS periods being limited or rescinded.

  28. Required Courses(refer to online Curriculum Guide) 4 Credits of English English I, II, III & IV 4 Credits of Mathematics Including Algebra & Geometry. Three of the four required math credits must be earned in grades 9-12. High school credit earned in middle school is used in GPA calculation and may be used towards one of the four math credits for graduation. 3 Credits of Science Includes 1 credit in Biology and 1 credit in a Physical Science

Required Courses(refer to online Curriculum Guide) 3 Credits of Social Studies Includes 1 credit in World History, 1 credit in American History, ½ credit in Economics and ½ credit in American Government ½ Credit of Physical Education Students who participate in marching band activities may satisfy the .5 credit of physical education by earning a “C” or higher in a Band or Eurhythmics course. ½ Credit of Personal Fitness Students who have participated in interscholastic sports at the Junior Varsity or Varsity level for 2 full seasons may apply to waive the full credit of Physical Education and Personal Fitness. The student must also pass the written personal fitness competency exam with a grade of “C” or higher.

  32. When Do I Need to Do This?? You need to complete the online course by August 1, 2016 to get a parking decal if you are a senior !!!! You also need to complete your 20 hours of community service to get a parking decal!!

What Do I Do Now??? • Sign up now on FLVS.net for: (Easiest and fastest courses online) • Driver’s Ed • Personal and Family Finance • Parenting Skills • Social Media • Outdoor Education (You may think you have completed this requirement if you took a semester of a class for grade forgiveness, but it will NOT fulfill requirement if not the “full” course!!!)

  34. What Do I Do After I Sign Up??? Counselors will approve the course you signed up for on FLVS. We check the website daily to approve courses. Check your FLVS account daily to see a message from the teacher welcoming you to the class. (You will not see a message to your private email address, you MUST check FLVS.net website!) This may take a day or weeks!

  35. How Long Will It Take Me to Finish?? Each class has a pacing chart that will be given to you so that you can plan for how long it should take you to finish. You can progress at a faster pace than the pacing chart and complete sooner! Sign up now as these classes will be filling up very soon throughout the state!!

  36. How Will Park Vista Know I Finished? FLVS sends us your final grade as soon as you have completed the course. We will enter the final grade and give credit for the graduation requirement.

  37. Community Service Hours&Online Course • PARKING DECALS will NOT be sold to 11th or 12th graders at the beginning of the school year unless 20 hours of community service is documented (which means entered into the computer BEFORE August 1, 2016!) and for 12th graders the online course requirement has been met. • No Senior Activities (Grad Bash, Prom, Graduation) tickets will be distributed without the documented 20 hours of community service and the online course requirement met!!

  38. Minimum Requirements for Florida University Admission • English – 4 years • Math – 4 years (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II and one above Algebra II are a minimum) • Science – 3 years • Social Studies – 3 years • Foreign Language - 2 consecutive years • 4 additional academic credits (English, Math, Science, Social Studies or Foreign Language) • A total of at least 18 ACADEMIC credits

Advanced Placement / AICECourses • Provides qualified students with the opportunity to take college level courses while in high school • Earn college credit by achieving appropriate levels of proficiency on the AP/AICE Exams. • Eligibility for AP/AICE classes is based on: • PSAT/SAT/ACT scores • GPA/HPA • Teacher Recommendation • Readiness to engage in a college level learning experience • Submit a completed application (January 22nd was the deadline) • AP/AICE classes will not be dropped once the school year begins • Acceptance lists will be posted outside of the Guidance Office on Friday, Feb 5th • If you are accepted, you will pick up a FIREBALL FUCHSIAAP /AICEselectionsheet in Guidance. You must then obtain both the AP/AICE teacher and your parent’s signature. Attach the AP/AICE selection sheet to your YELLOWPark Vista course selection sheet and return it to your teacher no later than FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 19th.

  40. Importance of Rigor in Schedule in College Admissions DecisionYour schedule should INCREASE in rigor each year!!!

Recommended Grade Level Courses 12th Grade 1 English IV ½ Economics ½ American Government 4 or 5 Elective Credits **Class of 2017 must also earn credit through an online learning program before graduation** Seniors who are “on track” to graduate and have parent permission may have two “No Class”. Students are not allowed on campus during their “no class” period(s). 3.0 GPA required for Student Aide Class.

  42. Colleges and universities are looking for at least 5 academic classes in your senior year Four year colleges and universities are looking for a rigorous senior year schedule. They have reported to us that they are looking for at least5 academic classes in the senior year. Remember that academic classes are Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies and World Languages. We have plenty of classes to offer you in your senior year!!!!!!

  43. March 2nd Free SAT for JUNIORS Take the March 2nd SAT very seriously. MATH FOR COLLEGE READINESS will be put into your schedule for your senior year if you do not earn COLLEGE READY SCORES!!!! SAT College Ready Scores Critical Reading = 440 Math = 440

  46. Take FSA Seriously!! • It will determine Intensive Reading, Honors, etc for next year. • You need an FSA Reading Level of 4 or 5 to enroll in many honors, AP or AICE classes. • All FSA ELA Level 1 and 2 students will be placed into Intensive Reading.

  47. Make-Up Credits or Courses for Graduation Credit Lab • Make up credits through the after school credit lab at PVCHS • See your guidance counselor for the registration beginning Summer 2016 • Does not count toward Bright Futures, NCAA or university admissions Florida Virtual School (www.FLVS.net) • Take regular or honors courses on the internet • Register at www.flvs.net • Apply early to be wait listed in case classes are full. E2020 • Behind in credits, not on track to graduate • Take classes online at school • Must register with your counselor • Does not count toward Bright Futures, NCAA or university admissions Warning-----Online courses are rigorous and time consuming and not an easy way to make up a credit!!

Academic History • You have received an academic history with all your classes, credits and other helpful academic information • Use this to assist in choosing the correct classes • Keep this with you for teachers’ reference for proper recommendations for next year IGNORE THE “STATE REQUIREMENTS”!!!!
