  16. What Were Some of Your Choices? What Steps Are in Your Plans?

  17. Digging Deeper: Research Careers You will begin to independently research careers that interest you: • Investigate threecareers of your choice using the National Job Bank’sexplore careers tools. • Wages • Education • Outlook • Look at all data and learn as much as possible for Toronto, Ontario and Canada

  18. Digging Deeper: Career Paths Now that you have identified the educational requirements for your three careers, investigate your options for the required training and education to get to the career you want: • University Education • Ontario Training and Education –Universities • MacLean’s University Rankings (2013) • College Education • Ontario Colleges • MacLean’s College Rankings • Private Training • I recommend a Google Search for “__(your career choice here)__ training in Ontario.” • There are a lot of private training schools and programs, but they are not connected under a large governing body the same way colleges and universities are.

  19. Digging Deeper: Career Paths Now that you have identified the educational requirements for your three careers, investigate your options for the required training and education to get to the career you want: • Apprenticeships • Ontario College of Trades • Pathways to Apprenticeship • Military Service • Canadian Armed Forces • Direct to Workforce • An article from Monster.ca • Be prepared to search for what it is you want to do and work hard to get it. This career path requires a lot of self-direction and motivation to achieve goals outside of general service jobs, such as retailing, waiting tables or cashiering. Find what it is you love and follow the 8 secrets of success to get there. Never give up! Good Questions to Ask: Where should I go? Why should I go there? What is offered there? Why will going there benefit me more than any other place? Is it worth the investment of time and money? How will this help me achieve my goals?
