  2. Negative Black • Ignorance, Evil, Death, Bondage (The ancient humans were afraid of the darkness, night represented the unknown) Examples: • color of mourning • grim reaper’s robe • chaos/creation (Greek/Hebrew) • demons in dark places

  3. Positive White • Knowledge, Goodness, Freedom, Purity, Innocence (The ancient humans received comfort from daylight.) Examples: • white beard/wise man: Gandolf in LOTR • clean, unstained: white dove • white flag: surrender/peace • wedding dress, chuppa, baptismal gown • angels

Negative White • Sterile, Cold, Naïve, Sickly • (The ancient humans saw whiteness of body at death and during illness) Examples: • Dr. office/psychology ward • ghosts: absent of soul/humanity • white face of death • KKK robes & storm troopers: no identity/humanity, anonymous killers • White witch: Narnia books • Widows in North India wear all white to mourn

  5. Positive Red • Rich, Wealth, Love (The ancient humans saw the physical heart was red; red dye was very expensive for clothing in the past) Examples: • roses/ hearts • lips/ fruit—prime of life and youth • red blood: energy, surge of life

  6. Negative Red • Blood, War, Evil, Danger (The ancient humans were afraid of injury/bleeding, which would lead to death) Examples: • fires of hell • Mars: red planet, god of war • anger/lust/flush of temptation (neg. passions) • “Satan” red demons

  7. Positive Green • Fertility, Youth, New Life, Growth (The ancient humans observed nature, spring, etc. as the time of birth) Examples: • new trees, plants in spring • to be “green” is to be new, fresh

  8. Negative Green • Naïve, Envious, Decay (The ancient humans saw spring as birth, hence the definition of naïve) Examples: • mold, mildew • envy= nausea/sickness • Rookie is “green”: Too inexperienced • jealousy is the “green-eyed” monster

  9. Positive Gold • Fulfillment, Peak Time (The ancient humans observed the rewards of harvest and precious metals as well as the color of the sun) Examples: • Wheat at harvest • Gold metal: Olympics, Crowns: royalty • “Golden Years” of either youth or old age

  10. Negative Gold • Greed (The ancient humans made war for gold, land, wealth) Examples: • King Midas • Ring in Lord of the Rings • Pirate booty: treasure to die for

  11. Positive Blue • Peace/Calm, Contemplation, Loyalty/Faith, Purification, Redemption (The ancient humans observed the blue sky, cool, calm waters) Examples: • -Baptism with water: cleans, redeems • idea of “heaven” • midnight blue, sky: infinity

  12. Negative Blue • Sorrow, Grief, Depression (The ancient humans associated this with tears) Examples: • tears, rain • stormy, cloudy water
