  6. Economy • Brazil has the seventh largest economy by nominal GDP in the world, and seventh largest by purchasing power parity. • Brazil’s economy is the largest of the Latin American nations and the second largest in the western hemisphere. • Brazil is one of the most fast-growing major economies in the world. • According to the World Economic Forum, Brazil was the top country in upward evolution of competitiveness in 2009, gaining eight positions among other countries, overcoming Russia for the first time, and partially closing the competitiveness gap with India and China among the BRIC economies.

  7. Economy (continued • In 2012, Brazil was ranked as having the 5th largest number of billionaires in the world, with even more than United Kingdom and Japanhave. • Brazil is a member of diverse economic organizations, such as Mercosur, Unasul, and the Cairns Group.

  8. Government/Politics • The politics of Brazil take place in a federal presidentialrepresentative democratic republic, where the President is both head of state and head of government. • The political and administrative organization of Brazil is made up of the federal government, the states, the federal district, and the municipalities.

  9. Climate • The climate of Brazil varies mostly from tropical north to temperate zones below the Tropic of Capricorn (23°27' S latitude). • They have winter in June through September. • The driest part of the country is the Northeast. • The country's coastal population centers are not as burdened with the need to prepare for cyclones.

  10. 11. Team Profile Italy’s team profile • Often below par during qualifying before raising their game at final tournaments, Italy went about things differently for once by taking imperious control of Group B in the European Zone. Finals History • With four world titles to their name (1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006) and two runners-up slots (1970 and 1994), Italy lie second only to Brazil on the all-time FIFA World Cup honoursboard.

  12. Team Prof. (Continued) • La SquadraAzzurra are also the only team along with the Brazilians to have won the competition twice in a row. Their 4-3 semi-final defeat of West Germany at Mexico 1970 is widely regarded as one of the most spectacular matches in the history of the tournament.

  13. Team Prof. (Continued) Profile of Coach In charge of Italy since 30 May 2010, Claudio CesarePrandelli started out as a midfielder and had a fairly modest playing career, most notably contesting 89 games for Juventus over the space of six seasons. Star Players • Profile of Coach: Captain and goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is the only survivor from their 2006 triumph in Germany along with Andrea Pirlo, while a host of youngsters have broken into the team, such as central defender Andrea Ranocchia and midfielder Marco Verratti. (continued on next page)

  14. Team Prof. (Continued) • Up front, the transition from old to new has been even more dramatic thanks to the emergence of Stephan El Shaarawy and Giuseppe Rossi's return to the fore. Also with a vital role to play are the maverick duo of Mario Balotelli and Pablo Osvaldo.
