Forum Goals • Provide information on a national desalination program plan and New Mexico’s role, • Provide information on New Mexico’s brackish water resources and transboundry issues, • Provide information on desalination plans, considerations, issues in New Mexico and bordering states, and • Identify methods or ways to enhance coordination and support of desalination efforts in New Mexico and the Southwest.

  3. Recommendations • Address liability issues • Characterization and investigation of brackish resources • Steering group- Ag, muni, oil and gas, industry, regulatory, academia, • Broaden economic incentives • Eliminate jurisdictional conflicts to accelerate nontraditional water resource utilization (oil and gas reservoir identifications, etc.) • Broaden technology base • Education activities(cong., state, local, interim committees) • Education task force • Roadshow, PR effort, newsletter • Collect all desal info and put on web (WRRI) • Continue desal forums

  4. Steering Committee • Soil and Water Conservation • NMOGA, IPA • State Universities • Municipal League, Assoc. of Counties • Assoc. of Commerce and Industry • Regulatory – OCD, SLO, • Exec group – F. Yates, W. Palmer, B. Creel, • Make contacts to formulate steering committee • Establish first meeting • Complete by September
