  3. Day 1 September 13, 2016Workshop 1 Just One More Drink Can Hurt workshop was very insightful as it showed the rate of binge drinkers and how New York addressed the problem. Some of the ideas to utilize media to get the word out about the increased risks involved can be used in our area.

  4. Multi-Pronged Approach • Prevention and Treatment programs • Screening Brief Interventions and Referral to Treatment • Enforcement of the minimum legal drinking age • Public Awareness

  5. Take-aways • Identify the target audience • A strong call to action can affect behavior change • Focus on People, not objects • Raise awareness of the harms of underage drinking

  6. Workshop 2 Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems and Vaping Marijuana workshop provided the history of ENDS. WHAT ARE E-CIGARETTES OR ENDS? ENDS are typically comprised of a cartridge containing fluid, a heating element and a battery. • ENDS are available in three main types: • Disposable “cigalike.” • 2. Rechargeable “cigalike.” • 3. Rechargeable and refillable vaporizers or tank-like products that do not look like cigarettes, have larger and adjustable voltage batteries and heating coils, sometimes called “Mods.”

  7. Day 1 Power Session • Health System Reform and Prevention This session was the highlight of the day as it highlighted how the ACA played a huge role in BH&W and SA prevention. The presenters provided ideas of how to overcome the barriers of partnering with PCPs.

  8. The panel shared how the Lane County Public Health leveraged state funds to partner with prevention to implement a EB strategies. They shared with us the Oregon Coordinated Care model which provide better care at a lower cost where they measure performance and pay for outcomes.

  9. Day 2 September 14, 2016 A Year in the Life of Building the North Brooklyn Prevention Coalition. This workshop provided the success of forming this coalition, who to include and some of the pitfalls. There wasn’t anything new that I gained from this workshop.

  10. Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health – Share Risk Factors/Shared Prevention workshop - this was a very interactive workshop where we collaborated with others across the country identifying the EB programs being used in several different model of risk. There were several programs presented that I will research to implement in my BH&W program.
