What is CIVITAS? • CIVITAS is a network of cities for cities to achieve sustainable urban mobility in Europe and beyond. CIVITAS in 4 key points: • Living “labs” & research projects • Network of cities for cities • Public Private Partnerships • Political commitment

Why transport & energy efficiency are high priorities for local authorities ! • POLLUTION • 40% of CO2 from road transport. • 70% of other pollutants from urban traffic. • 3.7 million early deaths due to air pollution mostly in cities occur every year. • URBAN GROWTH • 75% of Europe’s citizens live in cities. • PHYSICAL INACTIVITY • Millions of hours are spent in urban and regional congestion . • 2/3rds of the adult population in the EU do not reach recommended levels of activity. • 4th leading risk factor for death worldwide. (WHO, 2014).
