The College & Career Center Located in room 653 next to the War Eagle Dining Hall, The CCC is a place for students to receive help exploring colleges, careers, and service pathways so that they all head towards graduation with a plan post-high school. This space will be open to students during FLEX and IF periods.   11. NCAA • If planning on playing a Div I or Div II sport, you must register on the NCAA clearinghouse. (https://web3.ncaa.org/ecwr3/) • To send your transcript, go on My Payments Plus and put NCAA as your place to send it to. • You must also send SAT or ACT scores. When ordering your scores from each testing website, use “9999” as the score recipient code. • If you have any questions throughout the process please see or email Mr. Pileggi (apileggi@forsyth.k12.ga.us)

  12. College Application Process: Student Responsibility The student is responsible for. . . 1.    Verifying that complete college application is sent online. Visit the college/university’s admissions page for their application and process. Please allow at least 6 weeks for colleges to process & update websites. • Having SAT and/or ACT scores sent directly to college and/or NCAA from appropriate testing service. Colleges will not accept scores from high schools, and scores are not on transcripts.

College Application Process: Student Responsibility The student is responsible for. . . • Requesting a counselor/teacher recommendation(s) at least 3 weeks prior to deadline, ONLY if required by a college. Senior Profile must be submitted to the counselor or teacher for a recommendation! SENIOR PROFILE ***If the college does not require a recommendation letter or school evaluation form, then please do not request them.***

  14. College Application Process: Student Responsibility The student is responsible for. . . 4. Requesting Transcripts online...go to MyPaymentsPlus to pay for transcript. The fee for each transcript is $4.00. The FINAL transcript (which you must request through the Senior Exit Survey at the end of the year) is free. CLICK HERE FOR TRANSCRIPT REQUEST LINK

  15. Unofficial Transcripts Some schools (recently the University of Southern Carolina and Florida State University) ask students to self-report their high school academic record. You can save and upload a pdf copy of your unofficial transcript on Parent Portal.

  16. Note: PLEASE ALLOW AT LEAST 3 WEEKS to process transcripts, recommendations, and/or evaluations The Counseling Office is closed during Fall, Thanksgiving, & Winter Break

Early Decision Early Action * If accepted, student is not obligated to attend * Application deadline usually in mid October *Over 55% of Early Action applicants are designated as academically superior and will be offered admission. These students are truly academically superior. *GA TECH: (Oct. 15) notified Mid-December *UGA: (Oct. 15) notified December 15 NOTE: Early Action vs. Regular Decision Early Decision *Student usually applies between October and mid-January *If accepted, student IS obligated to attend *If accepted, student must withdraw all other applications *Many colleges require mid-year report *Colleges can rescind an acceptance (acceptance is conditional) *Emory *Duke *Vanderbilt

  20. First-Year Student Profile What is it? • Each college will provide you with their middle 50% admissions statistics- GPA, Test Scores, # of AP/IB/Dual Enrollment courses, Etc.

  21. UGA Freshman Profile • GPA (Mid 50% Core): 3.95-4.20 • AP/IB/DE Courses (Mid 50%): 6-11 • SAT (Mid 50%CR+M)1300-1460 • ACT (Mid 50%): 30-34

  22. Ga Tech Freshman Profile • GPA: A (4.0) • SAT: 1400-1530 • ACT: 31-34 • Minimum AP Calculus AB

  23. Ga State Freshman Profile • Core GPA: 3.3 - 3.8 • SAT (CR & M): 1070 - 1260 • ACT: 21 - 28

  24. Match-Reach-Safety Schools • Match Schools: Grades, course rigor, GPA, SAT/ACT scores, etc. are all on par with those undergrads typically admitted. • Reach (Dream) Schools: Unlike a match, reach schools are colleges where your academic qualifications are below the average accepted student. • Safety Schools: As you’ve probably deduced by now, a safety school is one in which your academic credentials exceed those of the average accepted student.

  25. It’s Okay to Transfer • If you apply to a reach school, and are denied, you can always apply to transfer. • Your college diploma will reflect the LAST school that you attend.

HOPE/Zell Miller • Detailed HOPE Report & Brochure: www.gafutures.org • Rigor requirement: 4 courses CLICK HERE FOR LIST OF RIGOR COURSES • HOPE Scholarship: Minimum 3.0 HOPE GPA & 4 rigor requirements • Zell Miller Scholarship: Minimum 3.7 Zell Miller GPA; Minimum combined score of 1200 on the math and reading portions of the SAT or a minimum composite score of 26 on the ACT (single national administration of either test) and meet 4 rigor requirements • How is it computed? Core classes only including foreign language, .5 quality point for AP/IB/DE courses, never goes above a 4.0 • How do I apply?https://fafsa.ed.gov/

  28. What colleges are looking for... • GPA (core vs. cumulative)‏ • Curriculum rigor • Extracurricular activities • Depth versus breadth • Test scores • Application “read” • Questions and essays • Complete, specific, and grammatical

College Entrance Requirements University System of Georgia (USG) • 4 units English • 4 units of mathematics (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and a 4th unit) • 4 units of science (Biology, Physics/Physical Science, and 2 additional units) • 3 units of social science courses (World History, US History, American Government, and Economics) • 2 units of the same world language • In addition, different types of institutions (research universities, regional universities, state universities) require additional, more rigorous academic units and/or a fine art course.
