Goal of Instructional Consultation To Enhance, Improve, and Increase student and staff performance ICT uses… • A Problem solving process to pinpoint specific academic and/or behavioral concerns • Grade level content expectations to set goals and compare growth • Instructional assessments • Addresses concerns with research based (best practices) assessments and strategies/interventions

  5. Where is ICT in BCSC? Cohort 1 – Smith and Mount Healthy (phase 3) Cohort 2 – Clifty Creek and Rockcreek (phase 2) Cohort 3 – Schmitt, Southside, Richards, and Taylorsville (phase 1)

  6. How does a case begin? • Teacher requests assistance (reading, writing, math, behavior) • Case manager selects the case within in 7 days of the request • Case manager schedules weekly meetings to continue the ICT process with the classroom teacher

  7. The Case Manager… • Documents the entire case including recording data, goals, and interventions • Can be any member of the Instructional Consultation Team • Will work one on one with a teacher, which preserves confidentiality • Is not an expert, he/she will guide the teacher through the Problem Solving Stages

  8. Problem Solving Stages • Contracting: initial meeting case manager has with the teacher to explain the Instructional Consultation process • Problem Identification/Analysis: conducting assessments and setting goals • Strategies/Intervention Design: The what, when, who, and how?

Problem Solving Stages cont’d. • Strategies/Intervention Design: The what, when, who, and how? • Strategy/Intervention Implementation: Have case manager and teacher done what was planned? • Strategy/Intervention Evaluation: Weekly data collection • Follow-up/Re-design: Revisit? Revise? Refine? Re-try? • Closure

  11. Time Management This is a 6-9 week process between teacher and case manager. Meet with case manager weekly. IC Team meets weekly.

ICT isNOT… Eliminating Special Education ICT could give documentation for a referral if no progress has been made once interventions have been implemented with fidelity. an Expert Model ICT Case managers are not experts. Case managers know the model and will help guide cases through the problem-solving process.

  13. What have we been doing? • Taking cases within the building • Training the ICT Teams in reading, writing, math, and behavior

  14. Key Points to Remember • ICT process helps identify the priority concern(s) and tailoring strategies to meet the teacher’s and student’s need. • ICT Based on collaboration between teacher and case manager
