  3. Disposal Alert (Disposal) • Care must be taken to dispose of materials properly • Special disposal procedures needed for safety

  4. Animal Safety • Care must be taken when handling or studying live animals

  5. Plant Safety • Care must be taken when handling or studying plants • Poisonous plants or plants with thorns are being used

  6. Hand Washing • Wash hands with soap and water after the lab

  7. Irritant (Gloves) • Substances are being used that can irritate the skin • Gloves must be worn

  8. Explosion Safety • The misuse of chemicals could cause an explosion

  9. Poison Safety (Toxic) • Care must be taken when using poisonous substances

  10. Chemical Safety • Chemicals being used can cause burns or are poisonous if absorbed through the skin

  11. Clothing Protection Safety • Substances being used could stain or burn clothing • You must wear an apron

  12. Thermal Safety (Extreme Temperature) • Reminder to use caution when handling hot objects • Wear gloves (or use tongs) when handling hot objects

  13. Sharp Object Safety • There is a danger of cuts or punctures caused by the use of sharp objects

  14. Fume Safety • Chemicals or chemical reactions could cause dangerous fumes

  15. Eye Safety • A danger to the eyes exists • Safety goggles must be worn when this symbol appears

  16. Biological Hazard (Biological) • There is a danger involving bacteria, fungi, or protists.
