For more information please go to: • What was the challenge/problem: • A substantial proportion of patients entering the acute trust drink to a level that is harmful to their health. These patients do not always realise that their drinking is affecting their health or is reaching a problem level. • The key aims are to: • Reduce the impact of alcohol misuse on use of NHS services • Improve the overall health of the individuals concerned. • Demonstrate the impact of alcohol misuse on services • What was done/solution: • A joint event was organised to raise the profile of this problem and create a joint action plan for working together to address the issue. It also set the agenda for the HIEC team and how they would assist the teams in working towards solutions. • What was achieved? • Project objectives are to: • Build on existing pilots and encourage a comprehensive approach for screening and brief intervention therapies through NHS staff. • Help organisations demonstrate financial case for investing in integrated • systems to reduce alcohol misuse across NHS agencies. • Evaluate initial roll out phase, identify the case for further extension if appropriate. • The changes must deliver cost savings, help to deliver the requirements of the CQIN and QIPP agendas and be driven locally • The development of an alcohol services resources network •   Community of practice • Networks • Contact list • Pathway development • Map of Medicine • Raising awareness • Identifying need to address alcohol misuse • Evaluating the evidence • Making the evidence easily available The Wessex Health and Innovation Cluster (HIEC) programme is of Southampton on behalf of the Wessex HIEC Partnership.   www.southampton.ac.uk/wessexhiec
