  2. Background: • Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin was born May 26, 1799 in Moscow. • Great grandson of Peter The Great Abram Hannibal. • Famous classical Russian writer/poet.

  3. Background: • Read French poets and writers easily in life. • One of the best students at Tsarskoe Selo Lyceum. • Knew French literature and had an insight into the problems of politics. • First poem was published in 1814.

  4. Background: • Became a member of the literary circle “Arzamas” where he met a lot of prominent men of letters. • Appointed a State Foreign Affairs College official. • Wrote several sharp epigrams and poems to social and political subjects.

  5. Family and Friends: • Father was Sergey Lvovich. • His uncle was Vasily Lvovich. • They were ardent adepts of the French culture. • His nanny was Arina Rodionovna whom he immortalized in his works.

  6. Childhood: • Brought up by French tutors. • Grew up influenced by French and Russian cultures. • French poets and writers were in abundance in his father’s extensive library.
