  3. Early Life • Mother: Martha Young Truman • Father: John Anderson Truman • 1890: He got diphtheria so he quit school and went to summer school. He learned so much in summer school he skipped third grade. He also moved to Independence, Missouri. • His favorite subject in high schoolwas history • He graduated in 1901 • Applied to the US military but he did not get in because of his poor eye site

  4. Family Life • He married Elizabeth Wallace on June 28, 1919 • He had a baby girl named Mary Margret on February 17, 1924

The Election • He was the vice president for President Roosevelt until he died so Harry took his place without an election • The second time he was president he ran against Thomas Dewey • His vice president Alben W. Barkley • He won the election but people thought he lost because get got 303 electoral votes and Thomas Dewey got 189 electoral votes • It was a close race • It was the biggest upset in U.S. history
