1. Daphne II Programme 2004 -2008 Drug Use and Sexual Abuse. Research, Exchange of Good Practices, Training to Prevent Violence on Drug-Addicted Women. Mario Mifsud, Vicky Scicluna, Mariella Balzan and Mariella Camilleri Malta - 2008.

2. Questionnaire to drug-addicted women 34 drug-addicted women were interviewed. The interviews have been conducted among 34 drug-addicted Maltese women for Daphne II Project entitled Drug Use and Sexual Abuse Research, Exchange of Good Practices, Training to Prevent Violence on Drug-Addicted Women.

3. To the question: Have you ever been abused? 88% of the interviewed drug-addicted women replied that they were abused; 12% replied that they were not abused.

4. If yes at what age? 53% - Child (5 -13 yrs.); 37% - Adolescent (14 – 20 yrs.); 10% - Adult (> 20 yrs.).

5. In which social, working or family life situation? Home/social – 57%; Social – 37%; Home – 6%.

6. Was this abuse in relation with your addiction to drugs? Drug related – 50%; Both – 37%; Not related - 13%.

7. Has this experience been repeated? Yes – 90%; No – 10%. Of the 90 % : home/social – 59%; social – 33%; home – 8%.

8. Did you ask for help? Not for abuse – 87%; For abuse – 10%; First for drugs then to abuse – 3%.

9. Which social or health centre helped you? Sedqa (National Agency Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse) / Probation Services – 52%; Caritas - New Hope (Foundation for Rehabilitation of Persons with Drug Abuse Problems) – 40%; Sedqa / Probation / New Hope – 8%.

10. Which social or health worker helped you? Health workers – 78%; Doctors – 11%; Others (psychologist, counselors, etc.) – 11 %.

11. Has this experience produced any changes in your life? Yes – 63%; No – 37%. Yes – 63% : no drugs / abuse – 72%; no drugs – 17%; no abuse – 11%.

12. What advice can you give to a friend of yours in relation to these risks? Ask for help – 77% Others (leave environment, leave partner, change lifestyle, face abuser) – 23%.
