  1. Kristi Sutter As An Elementary Reader

  2. As a child my mother read to my brother and me during the day. I do not remember traditional bedtime stories, but we snuggled up with her on the couch in the afternoons for a story. It was a special time of the day and always made me happy. One of my favorites from this age was Babar. Reading at Home

  3. While I do not remember my first reading experience, I have vivid memories of fear associated with reading aloud in school. I was the student who would count ahead to see which paragraph I thought I would have to read during round robin reading. I was not a fluent oral reader and deathly afraid of making a mistake. Reading at School

  4. I am sure that all of my teachers read aloud to the class in elementary school, but it was my third grade teacher, Mrs. Rigsby, that I remember choosing the BEST read alouds. She was the teacher who made me realize that you could get lost in a story and made me interested in reading independently. Mrs. Rigsby

  5. I remember the library at my elementary school and my librarian, Mr. Walters, fondly. We had lessons at the tables and I always looked forward to searching for a book that looked interesting. I remember anxiously waiting to check out books from the big kid shelves. He hosted many activities in the library like pumpkin carving contests and the RIF program. I remember it being a busy place. Westview Library

  6. The titles or authors that I enjoyed as an elementary reader are: • Charlotte’s Web • Shiloh • Strawberry Girl • Little Women • Island of the Blue Dolphins • Anything by Judy Blume Elementary Favorites
