What is the Madison DigitalImage Database? • System for managing and integrating digital images into the teaching and learning process • Instructors search and browse collections to retrieve images for slideshows, which can be organized, annotated and archived for future use • Students access instructor slideshows online to review for classes or conduct research

  3. What is the Madison DigitalImage Database? • Used at 50+ institutions across the country and internationally • Currently available in English and German • Image collections can be shared among installations • Remote collections appear along local collections when searching for images

  8. Planned: Additional media formats • Add any file to a collection • Images • Video • Audio • Documents • Depending on the media format, present the file within a slideshow

Planned: Generic API • Allow MDID to interoperate with portals, content management systems, learning management systems, and other content delivery systems • Allow MDID to connect to online digital collections • Expedite the development of innovative research and presentation tools that connect directly to MDID

  10. Long-term development plans • Presentation and research tools for new media formats • Tools for building gallery views, learning objects, etc. • Translate user interface into more languages

  11. Going forward • More free and open content • More collection sharing • More collaboration between institutions (e.g. cataloging, collection building) • More student involvement • Ability to use images and media wherever and however you want
