  3. What went wrong? • Activity: • Reflect on what results did not meet your expectations last semester? • Write 1 or 2 academic disappointments from last semester on your piece of paper

  4. Why it went wrong? • Now. Add to your description why you think you did not meet your expectations (problems)

  5. Trade and Advice! • Write down a recommended solution(s) on how you think that person could solve the problem(s)

  10. #1 Strategy • GO TO CLASS! • Don’ts: • Texting • Sleeping • Facebook, MSN, Anything internet related… - a new policy from Psychology Department • Forgo optional marks/projects , Psych studies, optional midterms, etc.

  12. More Strategies! • Don`t get traumatized by a bad mark. It doesn`t mean you can`t improve in the future! • Believe or not…You can avoid cramming- plan ahead! • Make an effort to get to know your classmates, they can be your study buddies for the semester

  15. Set SMART Goals Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timeline

Set SMART Goals • Specific – Set a specific goal you can accomplish. e.g., Earn two B’s in Term 2 • Measurable –Establish a criteria for measuring your progress toward attaining your goal. e.g., Attend all class sessions • Attainable - After your goal has been established, you begin to see ways you can achieve it. e.g., Write down your goals and establish a study schedule

  17. Set SMART Goals • Realistic – Your goal should be realistic. Set goals you can successfully accomplish. e.g., Reading 10 pgs everyday to finish Chapter 5 by this Friday • Timeline– Set a timeline to your goal. e.g., Mark examination dates on your calendar. Designate specific days and times to study for exams.

  18. Personal Solutions- Brainstorm and Goal Setting • Activity: • Use your problem(s) from earlier and think of one long term and short term solution of your own • Discuss with a partner

  19. Time to take action! • Use visuals! to see how far you’ve gone or how far you are behind, don’t let the workload pile up!

  20. Lists, lists, more lists! • For lists: two different columns, one for school, one for extracurricular e.g., List of readings for every course, checking them off as you finish • Share with a partner
