  2. In 1917, World War I was still raging unabated, but so was the Pope’s efforts to obtain world peace. He directed that the invocation “Queen of Peace” be permanently added to the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and He made a public appeal “To Mary, who is the Mother of Mercy… we ask for peace to be obtained for our agitated world.”

  3. Eight days later, on May 13, three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal, were tending their sheep, and Jacinta, age 7, Lucia, age 10 Francisco, age 9

  4. … when they saw “a Lady all of white, more brilliant than the sun.” “Don’t be afraid,” she said, “I won’t hurt you. I am from Heaven. I ask you to come here for six months in a row… Then I will tell you who I am, and what I want.” “Shall I go to Heaven too?” asked Lucia. “Yes, you will.” “And Jacinta?” “Also.” “And Francisco?” “Also. But he will have to say many Rosaries!”

  5. Lucia then asked about two friends who recently died. “Is Maria da Neves now in Heaven?” “Yes, she is.” “And Amelia?” “She will be in Purgatory until the end of the world.” “Do you wish to offer yourselves to God, to endure all the suffering that He may be pleased to send you, as an act of reparation for the sins by which He is offended, and to ask the conversion of sinners?” “Yes we do,” replied Lucia.

  6. “Then you will have much to suffer.” “Say the Rosary every day, to obtain peace for the world, and the end of the war.” Marienfried.com “But the grace of God will be your comfort.” After saying this, she disappeared.
