Courses on Offer at QEHS • Level 3 (AS/A2 Level) • AS taken in Y12 (50% of total award) / A2 taken in Y13 (50% of total) • Most courses are modular (made up of units) • Usually assessed by written exams (sometimes a coursework element) • If an AS is not continued to A2 it becomes a stand-alone qualification • Level 3 (Vocational – BTEC/OCR Courses) • Equivalent to 1 AS (after Y12) or 1, 2 or 3 A Levels (after Y13) • Courses are modular and made up of units • No written exams (each unit is individually assessed) • Can be combined with AS/A2 levels) • Level 2 (Work-based learning course) • Catering and Hospitality • Practical work-based qualification

  9. Entry Requirements (pages 9-11) • Minimum Entry Requirement for all Level 3 courses • 5 A*-C (or equivalent) including English or Maths • Entry Requirements for chosen curriculum pathways (Level 3) • 5 A*-C (or equivalent) including English or Maths • 6 A*-C (or equivalent) including English or Maths • 7 A*-C (or equivalent) including English or Maths +5.3APS • Entry Requirements for each subject

  10. Average GCSE Points Score • Evidence suggests that students with an average GCSE points score of less than 5.3 will perform better on a vocational or combined pathway. We would expect these students to take a vocational route or a combined pathway of vocational and academic courses • The points score is calculated by adding points from all GCSEs taken (excluding BTEC/OCR & NVQ) and dividing the total by the number of GCSEs • A* = 8, A = 7, B=6, C=5, D=4, E=3, F=2, G=1

  11. Choosing the Correct Courses (page 8) • What are your predicted grades? • What can you study with your predicted grades? • What are your interests, strengths & weaknesses? How do you learn best? • What qualifications do you need for career options, college or university courses? • What research have you carried out? • What advice have you taken?
