  2. Who We Are: • We are high school students from the Academy of Automotive and Mechanical Engineering at West Philadelphia High School.

  3. Brief History The EV (Electric Vehicle) Team began in 1999 with the conversion of a Jeep Wrangler to electric power. Students placed first in the Science Fair and were featured in Popular Science Magazine. This success opened doors to begin the after school program which became known as the EV Team. Over the next several years, students built and competed with electric and hybrid vehicles, winning the Tour de Sol in 2002 for the first time.

  4. Electric Saturn • The team converted a 1993 Saturn SL 2 to electric power by using a 324 volt lead-acid battery pack and a brushless DC motor. • This vehicle won the 2002 Tour de Sol competition, beating out 41 other teams.

  5. The Hybrid Jeep • The hybrid Jeep was the Team’s first hybrid vehicle. • The Jeep also got 35 miles to the gallon.

  6. K1 Attack • After the victory in the 2002 Tour de Sol students decided to dream big. • The team created the concept of the world’s first hybrid super car. • The goal was to create a hybrid car that was cool and fast and broke the stereotypes of the typical hybrid car. • We took the next two years to design and build the Hybrid K1 Attack.

  7. Completed K-1 Attack

  8. K1 Attack • Stats: 60+ mpg, 0-60 low 5 seconds, 2000 lbs. • We won the 2005 and 2006 Nation Tour de Sol beating out colleges and private race teams. • We have been featured on CBS national news, MTV2, Discovery Channel (twice), Telemundo, and many other programs. • We have also been featured in the local newspapers as well as several national publications.

  9. Our Goal • Our goal is to win the X Prize by designing and building a vehicle that achieves 100mpg, and is safe, affordable and fun to drive. This vehicle will be designed for the urban market and will have a significant impact on urban air quality. • Our second goal is to direct attention to the problems in air quality in the urban area.

  10. How You Can Help • Our vehicle will serve to raise the level of awareness of the severity of environmental issues and demonstrate real solutions. • We need financial, technical, and marketing support to make our vehicle a reality. • We hope you can become one of our key partners in this competition.

  11. THANK YOU ! We appreciate the opportunity to share our program with you.
