  2. Characteristics – 1950s Teenager Generation of new beginnings Dominated fashion Greaser and prep looks were utilized Rock ‘n’ Roll Elvis Presley - “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” idolized New outlook on life Freedom and independence College was new future Beat Movement showed self-expression

  3. Holden – Childhood Immature Lies Overreacts in situations Extremely judgmental Calls everyone a phony Constantly asking questions Imagination runs wild Doesn’t follow through with things Wandering mind

  4. Holden – Adulthood Smokes cigarettes Drinks Interested in sex and women Curses all the time Travels alone More respectful Caring about his younger sister

Childhood – Adulthood Frozen lake representsthin line between childhood and adulthood Holden relates to ducks Doesn’t understand where the ducks go; doesn’t understand where he’s meant to go in life Things are only temporary and can change quickly Deeper connection between childhood and adulthood then what meets the eye

Holden’s POV – Loss of Innocence Innocence is lost too quickly Wants Phoebe to stay young and innocent Notices children attempt to be mature by writing offensive language on school walls and public areas Cursing, smoking, drinking, and wanting to have sex Turning his loneliness into independence Stop relying on others to bail him out Lost his innocence through his experiences- Allie’s death and getting kicked out of 4 different schools
