  1. County Redistricting Proposal for Amending Existing County Commission Districts

  2. 2011 Florida Statutes Title XI COUNTY ORGANIZATION AND INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS Chapter 124 COMMISSIONERS' DISTRICTS 124.01(3) The board of county commissioners shall from time to time, fix the boundaries of districts so as to keep them as nearly equal in proportion to population as possible; provided, that changes made in the boundaries of county commissioner districts pursuant to this section shall be made only in odd-numbered years.

  3. Criteria • Population for each district within 5% of mean • Pie-shaped configuration • Split of municipalities other than Gainesville should be avoided. • Man-made or natural boundaries should be followed. • Include Incumbent's residence

  4. Further Criteria • Proposed district should cover a similar region to existing district • VTD (Voting Tabulation District) boundaries followed in order to summarize population and to align boundaries to Voting Districts

  5. Why align with Voting districts? Current Commissioner District 3 Description: Precincts: 6, 36, 41, 43, 47, 49 and: That part of Precinct 23 west of SW 13th Street; Precinct 31 except that part north of Museum Road and west of Fraternity Row; and he SW corner containing Mt. Vernon and Pebble Creek Apartments; All of Precinct 32 except that part NE of W Newberry Road; That part of Precinct 44 south of Hull Road and north of Archer Road that is campus. The campus part contains no residential property; That part of Precinct 44 south of Archer Road that is campus. The campus part contains no residential property; That part of Precinct 44 west of SW 34th Street that is Parcel No. 06712-000-000; That part of Precinct 44 beginning at the southernmost eastern corner of Precinct 44, follow Williston Road west to SW 23rd Street North, to SW 27th Avenue West, to SW 23rd Terrace, extended, north to Archer Road, east along Archer Road to the western edge of the parcel line of 2838 SW Archer Rd (Parcel No. 06764-001-000), then south to its southern edge, then east along the southern boundary of Gatorwood Apartments to the western edge of Parcel No. 06757-001-000, then south to the southwestern tip of Parcel No. 06757-007-000, following its southern boundary east to its eastern edge, then north to the southern boundary of Parcel No. 15507-000-000, then east to the southeastern edge of Parcel No. 15507-001-000, then north to Archer Road, and then east to a point due south of the Archer Road/SW 16th Avenue fork, north to Archer Road, follow the precinct boundary line east continuing until you reach the point of origin. That part of Precinct 44 commencing at the intersection of SW 34th Street and Archer Road, and continuing north to Hull Road; follow Hull Road East to SW 23rd Terrace, follow SW 23rd Terrace, extended, to Archer Road, follow Archer Road to the eastern boundary of Parcel No. 06757-002-000 to the northern edge of said parcel, then west to the western edge of Parcel No. 06757-003-000, then due south to Archer Road, then proceed west along Archer Road to the point of origin. All of Precinct 59 except that part east of the old railroad line north of SE 13th Lane; That part of Precinct 65 west of the eastern shore of Watermelon Pond and SW 250th Street and north of the City limits of the City of Newberry as of 4/1/2002, around to SW 95th Avenue. Except the SE corner of the precinct made by SW 95th Avenue and SW 202nd Street not in the City of Newberry as of 4/1/2002; That part of Precinct 67 which is north of SW 15th Avenue and east of SW 143rd Street and north of SW 46th Avenue

  11. Recommendation • Staff recommends that the County Commission provide staff with direction regarding the updated County Commission district map and schedule a hearing to adopt the amended map.
