  7. “He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors/teachers, for the equipping (“perfecting” KJV) of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.” Ephesians 4:11, 12

  8. “___sermons were preached by Christ.” The Voice in Speech and Song, p. 232

  9. “Few sermons were preached by Christ. He was the great Teacher, and crowds gathered wherever He went to listen to His instruction, and He taught as one having authority, and knew that He was teaching the truth.” The Voice in Speech and Song, p. 232

  10. “He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping (“perfecting” KJV) of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.” Ephesians 4:11, 12

  11. The “equipping” of the saints Katartismos “furnish or equip” From katartizo “to fit out, equip, put in order, arrange, repair, restore” Hence, to “prepare for service” so as to fulfill a specific function

  12. The word “equipped” in other Bible verses

  13. “Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: ‘Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body you have prepared for Me.’” Hebrews 10:5

  14. “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” Hebrews 11:3

  15. “And going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets.” Matthew 4:21

  16. “Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.” Galatians 6:1

  17. Our purpose, then, is to provide the right “equipment” so that the saints can do the work of ministry In this series, we will focus on furnishing you with information relating to the Bible

  18. The word “Bible” comes from biblion meaning “book” (compare “bibliography” and “biblioteca”) The word “Scripture” comes from “writing” (compare “prescription,” “manuscript,” “transcript,” “conscription,” “scribe,” “describe,” etc.)

  20. Satan’s attack has always been against the word of God Genesis 3 “Yea, hath God said,” or, “Did God really say?…” An attack against God’s word led to disobedience to His command, which brought about disaster That strategy has never changed!

  21. Revelation 11 The attack against the two “witnesses” (Old and New Testaments) in the Middle Ages by the papal church, and especially by the Assembly of France during the French Revolution and Reign of Terror The Great Controversy, chapter 15

  22. Satan’s attack as we near the end will be against the word of God The supreme question will be, What is the ultimate authority? God’s Word, or man’s word? That question will be framed in the context of which day of worship to honor

  23. The Primacy of Scripture Jesus is the living Word; the Bible is the written word John 6:63 “The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” The Living Manna (Jesus) and the “written manna” (His words)

  24. Where did our Bible come from? What is its purpose? Can it be trusted? How should it be used? What tools are available? What will be the result of proper use?

  28. “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.” II Peter 1:19

  29. “For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son

  30. In whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.
