  4. Keep in mind… • Let’s be Reflective! • In our lesson today, we’re going to study how things affect each other and how people respond all over the world. Let’s use this as an opportunity to reflect on our own lives so that we can make connections with the types of responses we have.

  11. Northeastern Native Americans The Iroquois Confederacy was an alliance of Native American groups that spoke similar languages. The groups lived near each other in what is now New York State, in the Great Lakes region, surrounded by forests, lakes and mountains. The Iroquois call themselves the Haudenosaunee, meaning “people of the longhouse.” Longhouses were dwellings large enough to house several families. They were made from a wooden frame covered with tree bark. Nearby forests also provided materials the Iroquois used to make bark containers and wooden canoes. Walls of upright poles were often put up around villages to keep out intruders. The Iroquois hunted, fished, gathered wild foods, and raised corn, beans, and squash. Women were responsible for tending the crops. The groups of hunters temporarily moved to the forests to hunt deer. Spring runs of fish drew families to nearby streams and lake inlets, where canoes were a common form of transportation.

Gallery Walk • Grab a writing utensil and your notes. • You will have a partner. • No more than FIVE to a station. • At each station, write down the station number in your notes and then answer the questions. • You have to find at least ONE adaptation station AND ONE modification station. • You can have no less than THREE DIFFERENT STATIONS before your time is up.
