17. www.vita.virginia.gov expect the best We are about 15 months into the transformation portfolio that involves 85 agencies and more than 200,000 devices. We have made significant progress.
Messaging Services – we are investing $25 million into establishing a single, statewide enterprise e-mail system, enterprise collaboration tools and an active directory service. We have installed the Exchange hardware, successfully completed an e-mail migration pilot, stood up a statewide global address list and completing the backend infrastructure to support future rollouts to agencies.
Voice/Video – We are investing about $20 million into a state-of-the-art voice over IP network for voice and video.
Desktop – We are investing $35 million to replace or update about 57,000 computers to a standard platform, consolidate and refresh network printers and standardize desktop support and management. As of September 5, we have refreshed 7,360 computers at more than 200 agency sites for 21 agencies. We replaced 1,651 network printers in the first year.
Network – We are investing $60 million to establish a single, secure statewide network, and modernize and standardize local area network components. The core network has been established and we have begun migrating agency networks. We have completed network migration for more than 70 sites.
Mainframe and Servers – We are investing $50 million to install new mainframe equipment in our new data center, consolidate more than 3,000 servers to about 1,000, and relocate servers either physically or virtually to the new data center. We have installed the new mainframe equipment and agencies have begun testing it, 90 servers in our current data center were consolidated to 16 blade servers, and we are successfully migrating those servers to the new data center.
Security – We are investing $10 million to establish enterprise-wide security operations, monitoring, incident prevention and response and a secure Internet gateway. We have completed high level design work, created the transitional enterprise security operations center, and established the internet secure gateway.
Help desk – We are investing $10 million to consolidate more than 40 help desks into a single, enterprise help desk with a single, enterprise-wide incident management system, Peregrine. We have stood up Peregrine and begun rollout of the system to agencies, and have begun staffing the enterprise help desk in southwest Virginia starting in November.
Facilities – We are investing more than $60 million into two new, modern and secure facilities, including the primary data center and central office in Chesterfield County and the backup data center and primary help desk in Russell County. The Commonwealth Enterprise Solutions Center was completed in June, and we moved in July. The Southwest Center is on schedule for completion in November.
