  2. Physical Features Vietnam has many dense forests and lots of rolling green hills. It is mostly tropical lowlands, and very little of the country is level ground. This is where most of its people live. Northern Vietnam has many mountains and consists of the Northern Highlands and the Red River Delta. The south is made up of the Annamite Mountain Range, the Coastal Lowlands, and the mekong Delta. The fertile, coastal lowland stretches from the Red River Delta to the Mekong Delta.

  5. Vietnam War The Vietnam war began from 1959 to April 30, 1975. The War began when the US wanted to prevent the spread of communism throughout Vietnam. The Americans later stopped supporting the war because they saw no further way to win.

  8. Culture • In Vietnam, about 85%-90% are Vietnamese. Some other ethnic groups are Chinese, Thai, and various other mountain groups. • Religions include Buddhism, Hoa Hoa, Cao Dai, Christian, and some beliefs in Islam. • Vietnamese life revolves around family. it is not uncommon for three generations to be living together under the same roof. • If your are invited into a Vietnamese home, you must bring incense, fruit, seeds, flowers or sweets. All gifts must be covered in colorful wrappers.

  9. Strange Laws • There is no freedom of speech in Vietnam. If you speak of anything against the government or the evils of communism, you will face arrest and deportation. • Being tricked or conned is not a criminal offense. If your bag is stolen or you are ripped off by a taxi driver, the police are not interested. These are just matters of civil dispute. • Foreign drivers licenses are invalid in Vietnam. So don’t attempt to drive in Vietnam. The government will even ignore an international license. • Taking pictures can be dangerous. In Vietnam, you must restrain from taking pictures of military action or you will be arrested.

  10. Gio to Hung Vuong Day • Gio to Hung Vuong Day is a national holiday in Vietnam. The Vietnamese nation was funded by Hung Vuong nearly 50 centuries ago. In 2007, the government declared a new holiday to commemorate this great king. In 2014, Gio to Hung Vuong Day falls on April 19. This holiday is held on the tenth day of the third lunar month at the Hung temple, which is a place of worship for hung Vuong. This day is celebrated with a colorful parade and going to the temple to pay respects to the country’s founder.

  12. Tourist Attractions Ha Long Bay is Vietnams most popular tourist attraction and is located in the northern part of the country. It consists of thousands hollow islands with thick vegetation and caves. The Thien Mu Pagoda in Hue is the tallest Pagoda in Vietnam. It over looks the Perfume River and is a symbol of the imperial capital. Sa Pa terraces in northern Vietnam not far from the Chinese border. These rice terraces are found in the town of Sa Pa.

  13. More Tourist Attractions Chua Cau is an ancient Japanese bridge in Hoi An. The Cu Chi tunnels are an immense network of underground tunnels that were used as hiding spots during the Vietnam War. The Mekong River is located in southern Vietnam and is surrounded by lush ares.
