  3. Why is E-waste an issue? • Complex compositions of materials within the waste • High cost to recycle • Toxic heavy metals and flame retardants in e-waste • Landfill environments are acidic, causing the toxins to dissolve and leach into the ground. • Exponential growth in E-waste

Findings • Current system is relatively effective at coping with the domestic e–waste • Landfill usage considerable more damaging to the environment • more comprehensive e-waste filtration system required to prevent unaccounted e-waste entering landfills • NTCRS will be effective given that the general public are made aware of the free service
