  1. Utensils: The most vital rule: Eat from the outside – in! A properly set table will have: Appetizer/salad forks furthest on the left  (B) Soup spoon furthest on the right (J) Next, work your way in to the 2nd course and use the main course utensils (C,D, H, I) The dessert cutlery is located above your plate (M and N) to include the dessert spoon & fork Side Plates:  Consider the acronym BMW (1): Bread, Main, Water in order from left to right with the bread plate to your left (K), and the water and two different wines will be on the right (O,P,Q) Social Decorum CurriculumProfessional Behavior in the Classroom This first slide contains trivia on “utensils.” Read the next several slides to get to the “meat and potatoes” that your term 1 instructor really wants you to know exceptionally well. Thank you!

  2. Polished Performance • The purpose of this PPT is to provide you with the proper tools so that you will be successful as a VN student today, tomorrow, and for the duration of your enrollment in the VN program • This PPT includes directions, like a compass, that will enable you to steer clear of difficulties& put you on the straight and narrow path of professionalism • It’s all about how YOU can profit and be 100% successful

  3. Be in the classroom at least 5-10 minutes before theory discussion is scheduled to begin – no later! • Your textbook should be open to the assigned chapter for the day • Your spiral (or other) notebook should be open with 2 black pens & your highlighters handy • Your cell phone should be “off” – not in vibrate or other mode • Violation of the cell phone rule means that the entire class will be penalized for your misconduct with a shortened lunch break and/or will remain until 3PM since this is a “team effort” – you are the team! • Send an email in advance to the theory instructor & the administrative assistant if you will be absent or tardy, and plan to make up those hours within one week • mariap@success.eduis the VN admin assistant • If you do not makeup missed hours, then you will be placed on “attendance probation”; so, avoid this issue & plan to makeup missed hours ASAP • Being even 10 (ten) seconds late to class means that there will be a write-up waiting for you at 2:45PM , and you will remain for detention until 3PM whereas your classmates will leave the classroom at 2:45PM at the end of the day • Want to reduce stress? ARRIVE EARLY. NEVER BE LATE. GET IT?

  4. Hair & Uniform • This information applies after you have received your uniform • Read your VN Handbook to learn the specifics • Go to YouTube and watch any good tutorial on how to make a donut bun or other professional “high bun” using elastic, hair spray or gel, etc. It’s easy! • You must wear a “high bun” on the back of your head; otherwise, it will unravel if it is touching the back of your neck or uniform every time you move your head side to side. No “messy bun” is permitted. It looks unprofessional in healthcare • Bangs touching the eyebrow or hanging below the eyebrow should be pinned to the side of your hair (bobby pins or clips) in the same color as your hair, and your hair should be a natural hair color – not artificially bright in neon shades • Use hair spray or gel to keep the look tidy and together for the duration of theory discussion in the classroom without having your hair sticking out in all directions • No tattoos or body piercings should be visible. Cover them up. • One set of ear studs – not dangling earrings – are permitted • Short nails in clear, pale polish are okay • Those of you without the above issues will jump into your uniforms & be ready • Failure to follow the uniform policy is a violation that will lead to a write-up

  5. Quiet Conduct During the Testing Period • When you have completed your exam while other students are still testing, please quietly push in your chair so that others will not stumble over your chair when they exit • Exit the classroom with supplies you need at that time: car keys, coffee, book, etc. • Do not return to the classroom after exiting the classroom until the assigned time since pedestrian traffic disrupts the concentration of students that are still testing • Do not congregate and chat in the hallway adjacent to the classroom since your conversation glides right back into the classroom & disturbs other students • Please leave the classroom & building entirely and GENTLY CLOSE THE DOOR that leads to the outside without slamming it shut, and then chat outside as much as you wish • Return to the classroom at the assigned time – and no sooner

  6. “Practice Makes Perfect”It’s About The Team – Right? • Keep the tips in this PPT presentation and review them often. Get them memorized, and your journey throughout the VN program will be more pleasant for you and your classmates • Common classroom courtesies make the learning environment more comfortable and reduces stress for everyone, so treat one another kindly and encourage one another to be their very best • Your classmates depend on you to follow the rules at all times in order to promote team cooperation in the theory classroom Thank you!
