  1. Why Your Business Needs a Digital Strategy Where do you want to take your business? How are you going to get there? What is the best way to get there? These are all questions one must ask about one's business if we are to survive in the business world. Almost one quarter of the world spends their time online, either on social networks of some sort or doing other activities online, e.g. shopping, job hunting, making online purchases or gaming etc. With an expected 3 billion people online in the next year or two, every business needs a road map or action plan to communicate to that massive online community. Failure to engage in this arena could spell suicide for many businesses as consumers become more and more savvy online. They feel empowered because they can research a company that is retailing a product or service and feel safe about the decision to buy. The key however lies in the presentation of the company to the consumer. Does the website represent the business accurately? Is the website responsive ie. does it display clearly across all device screen sizes? Is there a defined customer path? Is the content engaging and has it been written with search engines in mind to facilitate good ranking? Having a well built website that employs best practice on both user interface and user experience design, an active and engaging social network presence and a blog are vital to any organization. We cannot do business the way it was done 10 years ago, make that 5 years ago if we're going to be brutally honest, the landscape has changed drastically and businesses need to adapt or face serious setbacks. Clients are very comfortable expressing their opinions online and smart businesses set up the features to accommodate both sides of compliments and also complaints. This is often referred to as ORM or online reputation management. It is a fact that clients love to share information with their friends and family when they have had a wonderful experience and the adverse is also true. This system of digital conversation is fantastic as it allows customers to have a forum to share their thoughts but it also creates dialogue for businesses. With the market in a flurry of activity as digital media, print media, video and other media all grapple for the consumer's attention, how does one cut through the clutter and begin to utilise this amazing technology that is changing the way we do everything? They employ a digital strategy. A digital strategy is much like a well conceptualised military plan. Every aspect of the arena must be considered and setbacks and defeats must be included with second and third plans
