What content will be included in this course & how will students be assessed? • 4 units (approx. 1 per quarter) • Modern World History (approx. 15thcentury – present) ------------------------------------------------------------------ ◊ Assessments (quizzes, individual & group unit projects, simulations, mini-DBQ’s) ◊ Classroom Based Assessment (CBA)- causes of conflict ◊ Homework, class work, spiral notebook

Enduring Concepts • Geography’s influence/ Human-Environment Interaction • Conflict & Cooperation • Cultural Diffusion • Science & Technology’s costs and benefits • Distribution of Wealth and Resources (economic systems) • Revolution • Colonization & Imperialism • Nationalism & Self-Determination

What skills will students be asked to use? • Asking good questions/ propelling their own learning • Reading strategies • Annotating & note-taking strategies • Presenting their learning & opinions • Critical thinking • Organization • Time management • Following instructions • Cooperative learning

  6. How can you and students obtain information regarding class content and events? • Whiteboard • Classroom agenda • Website- homepage & homework calendar • Absent binders in class

  7. How can you assist your student? • TJH web progress reports • help/ encourage them to be proactive • follow-up after lengthy absences • encourage student to advocate for themselves • call or email me if stress appears, and they are not acting to help themselves
