  2. Sadie has a bag with 4 green balls and 5 red balls. What fraction of the balls are green? • Strategy: Addition, Division • How many parts? • 5+4=9 • What fraction of that is green? • 4/9

  3. Lana walked fromOxford street to Trafalgar square. It took 45 minutes to walk to Piccadilly Circus. It then took 25 minutes to walk to Trafalgar square. How long did it take to get to Trafalgar square? She left at 2.15pm. What time did she arrive? • Strategy: addition. • 45+25=70 minutes • 1 hour and 10 minutes. • 2.15 add 70 minutes. • 3.25pm

  4. John has 3 cars. Leanne owns twice as many. Suzy owns one less than Leanne.How much will it cost Suzy to put new tyres on her cars? Tyres cost £20.00 each. • Strategy:Addition and subtraction and multiplication. • Leanne 6 Suzy 5 • 20x5=£100.00 • Check: 100.00÷5=20 • 20÷5=6

  5. Three litres of lemonade were shared between 15 children. How many millilitres did they each get? • Strategy: division. • 3,000mls÷15 • 200mls. • Check: 200x15=3,000 • How many for 30 children? 60 children? • 200÷2=100 • 100÷2=50

  6. Rashid walked 3.6Kms to his friend’s house. On the way home he took a short cut which saved him 800m. How many metres did he have to walk home? • Strategy: subtraction. • 3,600m-800m • 2,800m • Check: 2,800+800=3,600 • Next time he saved 1,300m. • 3,600-1,300=2,300m

  7. One bag of crisps has a mass of 25grams. How many grams in a box of 36 packets of crisps? • Strategy: Multiplication • 25x36= • (20x30)+(20x6)+(30x5)+(5x6) • 600+120+150+30 • 900 grams. • Check: 900÷25=36 • Make up your own question.

  8. Things at half price now cost:£36.12, £121, £27.34, £342.20.What were the original prices? • Strategy: Multiplication (doubling) • £36.12x2=£72.24 • £121x2=£242 • £27.34x2=£54.68 • £342.20x2=£684.40 • Check: do the inverse operation. (division) 50%

  9. Sarah travelled 34.24Km by car, 2.7Km by bus and 2000m by foot. How many Kilometres did she travel? • Strategy: Addition. • 34.24+2.7 • =36.94 • 36.94+2 (convert to Kms) • =38.94 • Check: inverse operation. (subtraction)
