  2. Life Span • 1460?- 1521 • Born in San Tervas, Spain but the date is uncertain. • He made 3 voyages.

  3. What country did Juan Ponce de Leon explore? • He was the first to step foot on land in Florida • He also went on Columbus’ second voyage to America in 1493 • He didn’t go back to Spain with Columbus

  4. Why did de Leon go on his voyages? • He set out to find the fountain of youth, rumors that if you drink from the fountain, you’ll stay young forever • He also set out to find gold and land for the Spanish

  5. Where did Juan Ponce de Leon explore? • He explored Florida • He also explored the Americas on Columbus’ second voyage there

  6. What was the result of his voyages? • Juan Ponce de Leon discovered Florida • He established the oldest European settlement in Puerto Rico • He also discovered the Gulf Stream (a current in the Atlantic Ocean)

  7. When did he die? • Native Americans shot Juan Ponce de Leon with arrows when they arrived on the west coast of Florida and later died from his wounds in July, 1521.
