  1. Imagine… • If 10,000 employees banded together from one industry to make a difference in one city. • If that city was Charlotte and the industry wasn't banking, but insurance. • A city where insurance is known more for helping than anything else. Well, no need to imagine any more.  That effort is already underway, and we invite you to be a part of something great in our local insurance industry and our community.

  2. About Us – Our Goals • Band together as an industry to help advance one local charity at a time • Typically a capital campaign • Select a new charity every 1-2 years • Our initial charity is United Family Services (UFS) • Showcase the good that our industry and our employees do for our local communities • Highlight the charitable efforts of each firm, even if not directly related to Community Matters or our selected charity • Build camaraderie throughout our industry

About United Family Services – Highlights • New Shelter - Building a new shelter in Mecklenburg County for women and children who are victims of domestic violence • Rape Crisis and Sexual Assault Services – In Mecklenburg, Union and Cabarrus counties • Tree House Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) - Program focusing on children who are victims of sexual assault and other violence • Prevention – Education and awareness of domestic violence to help prevent further violence and victimization

  7. Why United Family Services • The idea for Community Matters began at a UFS fundraising event – a few insurance people thought we might be able to band together to help make a difference at UFS • It is a local charity that focuses on the needs of women and children in crisis • We were struck by the fact that the shelter in Charlotte was smaller than the shelters in Monroe, Concord and other smaller communities • To stop the cycle of domestic violence, we must do something much larger and more effective than what is available today
