  3. Strenghts • Long history of immunological research in infectious diseases • More recent history in other areas – PID • Genetics established in human identification, genotyping, and growing in other areas

  4. Weaknesses • Lack of top-notch mouse facilities for basic immunology research • Short-term grants through CNPq and FACEPE, favoring lower impact work • Lack of highly trained and productive PhDs and Post-Docs • Lack of core facilities for next-gen sequencing

  5. Ideas • Joint training program for PhDs and Post-Docs • Joint lab effort to apply for EU and other grants • (Work with FACEPE to create 5y grants and free up money for facilities) • OBRIGADO!
