Located in Miami Shores, Barry University was founded in 1940 by the Dominican Sisters of Adrian, Michigan. • Barry University is one of the largest Catholic universities in the Southeast and was recognized as one of “America’s Top Colleges” by Forbes magazine in 2013 for the third consecutive year. • Barry University's liberal arts focus emphasizes a well-rounded education, as evidenced by our wide variety of majors, minors, specializations, and elective courses. • Barry offers more than 100 bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree programs with approximately 9,000 students enrolled.

Embedded within Barry’s Core Commitment of Social Justice is an expectation that all members of the Barry community “recognize the sacredness of Earth.” • This direction has sparked a re-invigorated spirit and the development of new ecological sustainability efforts throughout the University at the President’s request.

  6. B.E.S.T. – Barry’s Ecological Sustainability Team • The purpose of Barry's Ecological Sustainability Team (B.E.S.T.) is to address environmental issues and to increase sustainability efforts at the University through various programming and recycling efforts with other university departments.

  7. B.E.S.T. – Programs • Annual Earth Day Celebrations • Speakers, local vendors, farms market, recycling competitions and residential hall programs • Green Jobs and Sustainability Career Panel • Green Jobs Fair • EcoDepot

Barry’s Center for Advanced Study of Environmental and Earth Law (CASEEL) • Provides innovative and practical academic programs designed to equip graduates to step into the legal world with broad vision and focused academic experience. Through the center, Barry offers students a comprehensive array of leading environmental programs.

CASEEL PROGRAMS • Honors Certificate Program in Environmental and Earth Law • Environmental and Earth Law Clinic • Environmental and Earth Law Journal • Center for Earth Jurisprudence • Environmental and Earth Law Summit and a host of conferences, workshops, and networking opportunities for students • Student organizations, including the Environmental Law Society • Student activities, including nature journaling, lake clean-ups, and on-the-ground research of Florida’s springs • Environmental and Earth Law Stipend for eligible students who will be pursuing Environmental Law

  10. Center for Earth Jurisprudence • The mission of the Center for Earth Jurisprudence is to advance legal principles, laws and governance that reflect a transformative Earth-centered perspective and support the well-being of all members of the Earth community.

ADDITIONAL CAMPUS WIDE EFFORTS • Barry is committed to promoting environmental and energy conservation as part of our campus life.  • Single-stream recycling • Hosting events to plant native trees and flowers • Developing policies and practices to conserve paper and energy • Following LEED standards in our campus growth • The faculty, staff, and students at Barry are re-imagining sustainable law and practices, which are all designed to make Barry as GREEN as possible!
