Concours d’Elegance • a competition of elegance (French) • literally, "concourse of elegance“ • refers to the gathering of prestigious cars • dates to 17th Century French aristocracy • paraded horse-drawn carriages in the parks of Paris during Summer weekends and holidays • carriages became horseless • competition now among automobile owners • automobiles judged on their appearance
