Overview of the Texas Grid • The PUC in Texas oversees Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) . • EROCT manages the flow of electricity to 22 million Texans. • This represents approximately 85%of the state’s electric load and 75% of the Texas land area. • Parts of South East Texas, North East Texas, the Panhandle and El Paso areas are outside of ERCOT.

ERCOT Facts • ERCOT is known as an independent system operator (ISO) that connects 40,000 miles of transmission lines and more than 550 generating units. • Manages financial settlement for the competitive wholesale bulks power market • Administers customer switching for 6.5 million Texans in competitive market areas.

News Release March 01, 2012 EROCT expects tight reserves for summer Initiatives underway to address capacity concerns March 1, 2012, AUSTIN – Generation capacity for the state’s wholesale power system is expected to be tight this summer, according to a preliminary summer assessment released today by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), the state grid operator and manager of the wholesale electric market.

  7. PUC Conservation Campaign • In anticipation of tight reserves this summer, the PUC will be launching a conservation campaign. • We will work together with ERCOT and utility providers to provide education and consistent messaging on how Texans can conserve energy, especially during peak usage times.
