What events led to the Cuban Revolution? • For most of the 20th century Cuba experienced political problems • In the 1950s Fulgencio Batista was president but then made himself the dictator of Cuba • Conditions under Batista were not good for the people during his rule as dictator • Castro led a group of rebels against Batista • In 1959 Castro defeated Batista and became the dictator of Cuba.

  4. 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis • Soviets placed missiles in Cuba that could reach cities in the United States • The Soviets agreed to remove missiles and the U.S. agreed not to invade Cuba.
