Work with Tabs Using tabs Use tabs to position text at specific horizontal locations within a text frame Left edge of white ruler in Tabs dialog box aligned with left edge of text frame If you scroll up or down, or resize page or text frame, text will no longer be aligned with Tabs dialog box To realign click Position Panel above Text Frame button on Tabs dialog box Once aligned on tab, moving tab moves text To delete tab, drag it off ruler LESSON 1 Chapter 9 2

Work with Tabs Using different tab alignments TheTabs dialog box offers four types of tab buttons for aligning text Left-Justified Tab Center-Justified Tab Right-Justified Tab Align to Decimal Tab To create tab in tab ruler: Click tab ruler, then click location on ruler Or click tab button, then enter location in X text box in Tabs dialog box LESSON 1 Chapter 9 3

  10. Create and Format a Table Working with tables A table helps to efficiently communicate large amounts of information Tables consist of rows and columns made up of cells InDesign regards tables as text Tables can only be created in text frames LESSON 2 Chapter 9 10

  11. Create and Format a Table Creating tables First create text frame Click Table on menu bar, then click Insert Table Insert Table dialog box allows you to specify number of rows and columns Default width of cells is the width of text frame divided by number of columns LESSON 2 Chapter 9 11

Place Graphics in a Table Placing graphics in a table To place graphic in table cell, click in cell and use the Place command If graphic too large for cell, red circle will appear Only option is to increase size of cell or decrease graphic size Replace text in cell with graphic Select graphic in pasteboard with Selection Tool Copy it Select text in cell with Type Tool and paste graphic LESSON 4 Chapter 9 22
