  1. Grand Canyon Village Master Bike Plan GRCA in partnership with NAU Ecological Monitoring & Assessment Program and the NAU Department of Parks, Recreation & Planning. Purpose: Conduct preliminary assessment of existing trails and roads that could be integrated into a network of bicycle trails. Focus of the project is on the South Rim residential and business areas.

Grand Canyon Village Master Bike Plan • Process: • Gather existing information for South Rim focus area – maps data layers, plans and roads/trails inventory • Conduct needs assessment with park residents (survey & focus groups) • NAU presents report with existing conditions, alternatives and recommendations • NPS integrates data, recommended routes, etc into Master Bike Plan for South Rim Village (includes visitor use and residential areas)

Grand Canyon Village Master Bike Plan Needs Assessment – Survey Results: • 78% of respondents walk or bike regularly • 51.6% Walk • 27.7 Bike • More respondents use paved roads and trails than unpaved • 49.1% use paved trails • 72.6% use paved roads • 39.1% use unpaved trails • 16.6% use unpaved roads

Grand Canyon Village Master Bike Plan Needs Assessment – Survey Results: • A total of 71% of respondents use trails for commuting at least once per week (We combined all frequencies from 1 to >7 times per week.) • Recreational trail use appears to be higher than commuting • -- 14% of respondents use trails for only commuting • -- 31% of respondents use trails for only recreation • -- 55% of respondents use trails for both commuting and recreation • 10% of respondents commute to work by bus/shuttle • 51% of respondents commute to work by driving

  5. Grand Canyon Village Master Bike Plan Next Steps: Develop alternatives and recommendations Final report to NPS Integrate into GCNP plan for visitor and residential use Ride to work! Ride for play!
