  3. DBQs • Questions related to a document or source • Goal: • Answer all parts of a question using • 1. information from the document (evidence) • 2. Prior knowledge/outside information

  4. DBQs • READ THE QUESTION THOROUGHLY • Underline or highlight the (multiple) parts you will need to answer. • READ the DBQ now. Stop before the documents. Underline where necessary • HINT: may want to rewrite requirements or questions in own words before beginning to write

  5. DBQs • Now that you’ve read and understood the question, CHOOSE A SIDE. • 1. QUICKLY read the documents (read each one). Underline and highlight! • Be thinking about the question as it relates to each document • DO THIS NOW

Write down outside information related to the question (information not in the documents) • Think about what you may have learned in class • Write a short list of outside information • DO THIS NOW • 3. Draft a thesis statement. • Remember to think about the documents and outside information in your thesis and how you will use them to make your points. • DO THIS NOW

  7. DBQs • You’re ready to write! • You will now write an essay to support your thesis. • Remember to introduce your thesis, don’t just begin with it. • Remember to use the document (quote it) in your DBQ • Remember to use your outside information too!

  8. DBQs • Write now on the essay prompt. • Be thoughtful. Be thorough. Speed is not scored today. • Support your argument. • Use complete sentences. • Answer the question completely
