  2. Widening Participation • ‘WP’ as a government agenda – 50% of 18-30 to experience HE by 2010 • Both economic and social inclusion agenda • No official definition of ‘WP’ – can include; mature, minority ethnic groups, socio-economic classes, gender

  3. Widening ParticipationOutreach • Partnerships for Progression – raising awareness and funded by HEFCE/LSC • Excellence Challenge – raising attainment and funded by DfES • Will merge to be ‘Aimhigher’ in May/June 2004 • Mainly ‘local’ focus, but regional and national initiatives as well, but targets are on regional basis
