  3. Our self reporting grades portal is open and will remain open until April 30. If you are studying on a linear system, you should report marks at the end of Term 1. If you are studying on a semester system, report as soon as midterm marks are available for your second semester. • *Conditional offers of admission and scholarships have just started to go out and will continue to be sent out thru to April 30 as grades are received. • *February 28th is the deadline to apply for early admission, broad based application to the Beedie School of Business, priority access to residence and our major scholarships. Application deadline is midnight of Feb. 28th. • *On March 6, you and your family can visit the Open House at our Surrey Campus where you can view interactive exhibits, tour the Surrey campus, enjoy live music and activities, and most of all, learn more about SFU's programs and services. • Campus Tour- To check out your best fit. Guided Campus tours are student led. • *In May we will receive your official interim grades from the Ministry of Education. Have you all submitted the online PSI form to ensure the Ministry sends us your grades? Provided your grades are as you reported to us we will confirm our offer of admission. New offers will also be sent out at this time to those whose grades weren’t quite high enough when they self reported but have managed to pull up their marks. • *Information Evening in May is a great opportunity for you to kickstart your career as an SFU student. You and your family will be invited to attend presentations, take a campus tour, and even talk to staff, professors and students who can tell you more about academic programs. • *Course Registration will take place mid-July. An email will be sent to you prior to course registration directing you to a free online course that will walk you through choosing and registering for your classes. It will also provide you with a lot of details about what to expect in your first term as a university student. • *Our Welcome Event will take place a week before classes begin. It will be a chance to connect with other new students, participate in some fun activities and learn to find your way around campus. • *You will be emailed important information over the next few months so don’t get concerned that this is a lot of information to remember, just make sure you are reading the emails we send you.

  4. Program choice • Students can pick two programs. • Choose first and second choice from different faculties. • Don’t put Beedie School of Business as second choice. Highly competitive. So the faculty won’t look at your second choice.

  5. Sis.sfu.ca – Student Portal • Once you have logged in, you will land on the Student Center page which looks like this. • To Do List: Should be complete • This is where you can self-report grades. Report as accurately as possible. Self-report term 1 marks. If you do not receive an offer, self-report term 2 marks. Offers of admissions are conditional. Offers will be confirmed with marks on TRAX. Admission Offer will not be revoked provided the GPA does not fall below the lowest admitted. For e.g. say the student has self-reported GPA of 87%. It falls to 85%. SFU is admitting at 82%. Then it’s fine. So TRAX is very important. Students must complete the PSI Choices Form. Final grades are looked at just to see if the drop is not much and the courses are completed. English 12 mark is looked for LPI exempted. LPI exemption is based on securing 75% final mark in English 12. Students must self-report their Gr. 11 and 12 marks. Report all Gr. 12 courses. System will pick the courses that are best for you. Report AP and IB courses as well. The system will pick the mark of AP course or regular course whichever is higher but not both. Say student cannot use AP Biology and regular Biology in their GPA. For AP courses students must write the AP exam. If they don’t take the course and just take the exam it is okay. • Calculus 12 is not a required course. But Professors say that students with Calculus 12 are better prepared. Calculus 12 can be used as one of the approved Gr. 12 courses. • Law 12 is an approved Gr. 12 course. • For SIAT Pre.Cal 12 is required. Programming is not required for admission but it might help.

  6. Language Requirements • Language 12 is not a required for admission into any program. • Language 11 is a requirement for all programs. • Intro 11 works • If language 11 is not the transcript, better to ask for a paper copy and send it in, just to play it safe.

  7. Sis.sfu.ca – Student Portal • Check your application status. • Incomplete • Complete- when To Do List is complete • Admitted

  8. Sis.sfu.ca- Student Portal • There is also a link to change your program. Program changes can be made until April 30 for all programs except Business. Students can change their programs as many times as they want till April 30th. Program changes to Business as a first choice, must be made by February 28.

  9. Sfu.ca/futurestudents • A great resource is Future Student site

  11. Scholarships • Automatic Scholarships: 95% GPA or above. $5,000 • Major Entrance Scholarships (MES)- Deadline is Feb. 28th midnight. One online application for all MES. Short essay required. Need paper copy of the transcript. Mail it in or submit in person. Need a firm 90% GPA in the four Gr. 12 courses needed for that program. Students who apply for MES need not complete the broad based application for Beedie School of Business. If the GPA is 90% or higher, then Financial Aid Office will forward the scholarship application to Beedie. Students with less than 90% GPA are better off doing the Beedie broad based application. Stick to the word count. Short is okay provided it is will articulated. • Entrance Awards- Some have Feb. 28th deadline , while others April 30th.

  12. Transfer Program • About 40% of the students are from another institutions. • Transfer Students- need at least 24 post-secondary credits. Those with less than 24 credits will be considered as a high school student. Only high school marks will be looked at and just a pass in college courses is okay. There cannot be a fail in a college/other institution course. • Maximum 60 credits will be allowed for transfer from another institution. Rest must be completed at SFU. • Suggestion- Transferring from a college is better than repeating high courses for entering SFU. • Only Faculty that is hard to transfer into is Business. Others are easy.

  13. Deferral • Admitted students can apply for deferral for one year. This is not guaranteed.

  14. Online Courses • 50% must be completed by mid April, so that the online providers report the marks to the ministry. 100% must be completed by June 1st.
