  1. Rockman AC for the World Class Composites & Moulds A composite material can be seen as a combination of two materials. These materials may have different physical as well as chemical properties. When combined, the composites create a material specialized to do a certain job. Take an example of a composite purposed to become stronger, lighter as well and resistant to electricity. Such composites can also impart strength and stiffness to the product. The reason people use composites over traditional materials is because they boost the properties of their base materials. Such aid is necessary in many situations. Why do people use Composites? One of the primary reasons to use Composites is weight saving. Composite materials are preferred over conventional materials for component building. They are lighter as well as stronger than other materials. For example, a famed composite like reinforced carbon fiber is five times stronger than 1020 grade steel, whereas, it is only one-fifth of the weight. This makes the product perfect for structural purposes. Properties of a Composite Material One can also use composite in advantageous situations over a conventional type of material, in case they want to enhance or impart any of the following qualities to a material: Thermal Resistance Chemical Resistance Electrical Insulation Conventional materials cannot provide such properties. Composites can also have multiple properties not found in a single material, such as in the case of fiber-reinforced composites. Take an example of Fiber Reinforced Plastic composites or FRP composites. These FRPs are finding increasing use in the design as well as the manufacture of finished goods for better commercialization. Types of Composites in the Market

  2. Some common composite materials that you can easily find in the market are Ceramic matrix composites. These are made of ceramic spread out in a ceramic matrix. Better than normal ceramics, such composites are thermal shock as well as fracture resistant. Another one is Metal matrix composite, where metal is spread throughout a matrix. Reinforced concrete strengthens the material with its high tensile strength. Glass-fibre reinforced concrete is poured into a glass fiber structure with high zirconia content. Translucent encases optic fibers. A specialty material like veneer can also be found in optic fiber composite. Plywood composites are engineered by gluing many thin layers of wood together at multiple angles. There is also an engineered bamboo, in which strips of bamboo are fiber-glued together to make a board. This proves to be a useful composite as it has higher compressive, tensile as well and flexural strength in comparison to simple wood. Parquetry can be thought of as a square of many wood pieces put together to make a hardwood. Sold as a decorative piece, wood-plastic composite cast either wood fiber or flour in plastic.
