Purpose The purpose of our session today is to provide an overview of the Child Care and Early Education reform efforts in Michigan as part of the Great Start System. • Through the reform, Michigan expanded its partnerships with state departments, public and private organizations, and non-traditional partners. • We will discuss the process leading to reform, and challenges to creating change

What is Great Start? • Great Start is a coordinated system of public and private community supports and resources for families of young children. • Community is the key to Michigan’s network. • Great Start Collaboratives • Great Start Parent Coalitions • Great Start Regional Child Care Resource Centers

Office of Great Start • Governor Snyder will be creating an Office of Great Start – Early Childhood, by Executive Order. • The Office of Great Start brings together the 84 early childhood funding streams. • First Step – combining the Office of Child Development and Care (DHS) and Office of Early Childhood Education and Family Services (MDE)
