Dr. Rohrer • Professor and Director, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology • Director of University Oral Pathology Laboratories, and • Director of the Hard Tissue Research Laboratory • Authored/co-authored over 85 publications • Primarily research in the histologic and histomorphometric evaluation of bone, bone implants, bone grafting materials, and bone enhancing strategies.

  4. Dr. Grimes • Research interest in the structure and assembly of the Bacillus subtilis bacteriophage phi29. • Recent emphasis on determining the molecular mechanism of DNA packaging and the role of a novel multimeric packaging RNA in this process. • The lab employs an integrated multi-disiplinary approach including genetic, biochemical, and biophysical techniques, such as cryo-EM and single molecule studies with laser tweezers, to address the mysteries of the structure and assembly of this virus.

Strategies for Getting involved in Research • Looking up researchers with similar research interests as yourself • Reading their articles and research interests before hand • Asking to meet with professors to talk about their research at the first possible meeting with them and then asking it possible to research in their lab • UROP • For freshmen and sophomores, a great class to take is BIOL 1020, Biology Colloquium • The class gives students the chance to interact with biology faculty • Great chance to discover a research opportunity • All research does not have to be dental related • Preferably life science

  6. Dental School Tour • Tour will be on Tuesday, April 3rd • 4:00pm-4:45pm • Meet on 4th floor outside of simulation clinic • Down the hall and to the right of the escaladers • Sign-up if you have not done so already! • Last day to sign-up so dental school has accurate numbers

  7. Collaborative Health Care Event • April 12th, 6:30-8:30pm in STSS #412 • Program (2011, this year would be similar) • 6:05-Welcome • 6:10-Guest Speaker: Steve Schondelmeyer on Health Care Reform • 6:30-Guest Speaker: Don Uden on Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 • 6:35-Inter-professional Case Study - small group discussion • 6:50-Case Study debrief by Tricia Todd • 7:20-Health Care professional panelists debrief • 7:50-Wrap up and door prizes • Goal: To bring together pre-health students and introduce them to interprofessional perspectives of patient care
