  1. Character and Conflict in “A Lesson Before Dying” Read ! By: Gabriel Garcia, Gavin Solis, and Zach Escalante Interview tomorrow

  2. Conflict • The definition of conflict is to come into collision or disagreement; be contradictory, at variance, or in opposition. • The conflict in “A Lesson Before Dying” is Grant’s feedback of the racial society, the execution of Jefferson and his inner conflict of dealing with living in a plantation.

As Mr. Pichot instigates and provokes Grant, Grant, fights back the urge to talk back and disrespect him. This shows Grant’s attitude towards the white man who looks down on black men. Grant was implored by Vivian to go to Mr. Pichot’s house with Tante Lou and Miss Emma, in order to teach Jefferson how to become a man and not die like a hog. Grant vs. Mr. Pichot

  4. Grant vs. Vivian • On many occasions Grant wants to run away with Vivian and never come back, he also loses trust in himself and Jefferson. • Vivian tells him that he loves his people more than he hates living here

  6. Grant Vs. Tante Lou • Grant is pratically forced by Tante
